Proform Cable Fly

While Proform has several treadmills, elliptical machines and cycle trainers for sale on Amazon, they don't currently have any cable machines. However, you can find one or more cable machines from other companies in most gyms. If you want to build a better chest, you should use these machines to do flys.

Why are Cable Flys a Useful Exercise?

The big benefit of cable flys is they isolate your chest muscles. With most exercises, you use other muscles in addition to your chest. For example, when you bench press, you also use your forearms, shoulders, back and core to move the weight. But with cable flys, you can put your chest in a position where it has to do all the work. Being able to isolate and work your pectoral muscles means you'll get better results in less time. Another benefit of cable flys is that they're safer than doing exercises with free weights. When you use a cable machine, you don't have to worry about dropping a bar or dumbbell on yourself.

Although you may think that taking on this kind of risk is necessary for building more muscle, that's simply not true. In fact, not jeopardizing your safety can actually help you get results faster. The reason is you will be able to push yourself to full exertion without worrying about injury. Instead of needing to put a bar back on its rack because you're worried you're going to drop it during the next set, you can safely exert your chest muscles until they physically can't do another rep.

Is There More than One Type of Cable Fly?

Yes, there are several types of cable flys. The most common is the downward standing fly. This type of fly involves pulling the cables down and in front of your body. The next variation is the upward standing fly. The difference between this and the first type of fly is you're pulling the cables up into the air instead of down. The other type of fly is done while lying on your back. With this variation, you're pulling the cables up and over your body.

How Do You Get the Most Out of Cable Flys?

You can fully develop your chest by integrating all three types of flys into your workouts. The reason it's worth doing each type of fly is each one has a slightly different impact on your chest. To get the most out of all three types, it's important to always keep your arms straight. Doing so will allow you to keep the full tension of the exercise on your chest and not cheat by using your biceps to pull the cables. For the standing variations, it's important to use a stance that places one foot in front of the other. While you can lead with either foot, the reason this is important is it will allow you to stay balanced and create the right path of motion during your cable fly sets.
